Here's how major food companies plan to eliminate cannabis imitations
Businesses like Kellogg and General Mills want to go beyond the Shop Safe Act, which states that THC goods cannot be sold and disseminated that are clones of their trademarks.
Children seem to be consuming cannabis by accident more frequently these days.
In addition to the fact that cannabis edibles are becoming more and more popular, marijuana products are frequently marketed in the United States as delicious candies and desserts. Some of these products even mimic the appearance of popular foods like Cheetos and Oreos.
Given that situation, it was only a matter of time before well-known businesses joined in.
Major food and beverage firms, according to The Washington Post, are urging the U.S. Congress to take a stand against these items in order to stop their spread.
The businesses, which include Kellogg and General Mills, want to amend the Shop Safe Act, which prohibits the sale and distribution of THC products that replicate their brands.
These companies are responding to a rising trend of accidental cannabis overdoses, which includes minors drawn in by the alluring packaging of edibles in the United States, in addition to their concerns over the usage of their iconography.
Epidemiologist Danielle Ompad told The Washington Post, "I don't imagine a lot of people are trying to poison toddlers." "However, children have access to people's stuff. Kids are cunning little animals, even if parents have neatly tucked them away," Ompad observed.
She makes it apparent that the majority of cannabis edibles do not resemble well-known brands, but the problematic goods are more likely to be offered online and in an uncontrolled manner. These products frequently make fun of non-cannabis products and have packaging that is similar to that of things that many people are already familiar with.
The Shop Safe Act prohibits the sale of fake goods. The word "renowned mark," which forbids other items from copying colour themes and designs associated with the original brand, is what brands want added to these new regulations.
Reputable cannabis companies are taking precautions like childproofing their packaging and attaching labels with clear text to the wrappings.
However, it is up to parents to use edibles and marijuana products responsibly while making sure their children cannot access them.
